Our unique school environment allows for a high level of individual teaching and learning. To enable all students to fully achieve at their potential, teachers plan learning experiences which are aimed at all ability levels.
Supporting this, we have a very experienced Learning Support Teacher who works closely with the teachers to assist students in their learning. We are fortunate to have specialist staff available for our students through Catholic Education Services such as an Occupational Therapist, Psychologist and Speech Therapist. This is a free service for our families. These specialists work as a team with the parents, classroom teacher and Learning Support Teacher.
Our Indigenous students are also supported well in their learning with a support teacher who works alongside the class teachers to ensure that optimum learning occurs and supports general well being.
For students who show promise and extra potential in their learning, our multi-aged classes allow for extension. This is a unique and valuable aspect of St Rita’s, Babinda. Students also compete in local competitions such as Optiminds.
To support students with social and emotional development, our school counsellor is readily available. The beauty of having the counsellor as a part of the staff is that they really get to know the child in the context of the school, working closely with parents and teachers for the social and emotional wellbeing of the students.
Child safety and protection is of utmost importance at St Rita’s. All staff are trained in Student Protection matters on an annual basis and all parents and volunteers must undergo induction. All staff act diligently to ensure all students are safe.
